Companies in the pharmaceutical industry deal with a large volume of data on sales, products, suppliers, and business goals on a daily basis. However, turning this information into clear insights for decision-making remains a common challenge.
It was precisely this scenario that led to the development of an analytical dashboard for VitaFarma, with the goal of providing a clear overview of sales performance, product profitability, and operational trends over time.
The goal was to create a solution that would enable visual, intuitive, and strategic monitoring of business performance, helping managers identify growth opportunities, optimize the product mix, and improve operational efficiency.
The result was the creation of an interactive dashboard in Power BI, designed to guide users through an analytical journey that begins with a high-level view of the operation and progresses to more detailed analyses of sales behavior and product profitability.
The dashboard is organized into three main analytical perspectives:
Executive Overview
On this page, you can track key business performance indicators, such as net revenue, profit, profit margin, sales volume, and average ticket.
The charts also allow you to analyze how these indicators have changed over time, with monthly or year-to-date (YTD) views, making it easier to identify trends and seasonality.
Pace of the Operation
The second page explores sales trends over time, analyzing patterns by month, day of the week, and pharmacy operating shifts.
This analysis provides insight into when sales occur and helps identify periods of higher or lower demand, supporting decisions related to staff management, inventory planning, and the development of promotional strategies.
Products and Profitability
The third page delves deeper into the analysis at the product level, highlighting which items generate the most revenue and which are the most profitable.
With the help of analyses such as product rankings, contribution curves, and revenue-versus-margin matrices, it is possible to identify strategic products, growth opportunities, and items that warrant attention in portfolio management.
Based on these analyses, the dashboard revealed some important strategic insights for the business.
We were able to identify products with high profit margins but still low sales volume, representing a clear opportunity to increase profitability through simple sales initiatives, such as prominent display at the point of sale or recommendations from sales associates.
It was also observed that sales vary significantly across the days of the week and shifts, indicating periods of higher demand. This type of information can support operational decisions such as staff scheduling and inventory planning.
In addition, the analysis showed that a small portion of the portfolio accounts for a large share of revenue and profit, highlighting the importance of strategically managing the products that are most critical to the operation’s financial performance.
More than just presenting numbers, the dashboard allows you to transform operational data into strategic insights, making it easier to identify patterns in business behavior and supporting faster, more informed decisions.
